Frontline Groups in 24 Countries Supported in 2024

When you make a donation designated to support one of Frontline Women's Fund’s funds, we re-grant 90% of your donation as an unrestricted general operating grant to frontline organizations. Such grants, our grantees tell us, are invaluable as they convey our trust in their judgment and allow them the freedom they rarely have to use the funds in the most strategic way as they determine. Often grantess use our grants to respond to urgent and unexpected needs that arise on the ground, for which they would not otherwise have the funds to respond with immediately and effectively.

Each group supported by The Frontline Women's Fund is vetted in accordance with applicable U.S. laws, and provides annual reports and audited financial statements. The Sisterhood is Global Institute reserves the right to redirect funds in the event of changed circumstances involving compliance with standards of good governance or U.S. law.

Highlights

Some noteworthy highlights from the work of grantees in 2023-2024 include:

International Advocacy

The Women’s Forum on Afghanistan (WFA) has remained a leading global force in advocating for Afghan women’s rights. In 2023, WFA organized high-level dialogues and side events during the UN Commission on the Status of Women and the UN General Assembly. These events, co-hosted with international grantees, emphasized the importance of integrating Afghan women’s perspectives into global decision-making processes and highlighted their contributions despite ongoing challenges.

Ending Female Genital Mutilation in The Gambia

On Monday, July 15th, the bill to repeal the ban on FGM in the country was rejected by the National Assembly, with 34 votes against and 19 in favor. This is not only a victory for Gambian women and girls but also for women and girls around the world who are either survivors or at risk of FGM.

Our grantee GAMCOTRAP, with decades of experience fighting at the forefront to end FGM, has been on high alert since the bill was initially proposed. They have been working tirelessly, mobilizing hundreds of activists to protest this regressive bill and urging lawmakers, politicians, and national and international entities to support their cause. Despite facing constant abuse from pro-FGM groups and traditionalist leaders, GAMCOTRAP has stood their ground and played a crucial role in the National Assembly's decision to reject the bill.

Celebrating Gloria Steinem's 90th Birthday

In honor of Gloria Steinem’s 90th birthday, FWF launched an ambitious campaign to raise $900,000 for the Gloria Steinem Equality Fund to End Sex Trafficking. In March 2024, a special roast and toast celebrated Gloria’s milestone with a fun and moving event. The campaign also included heartwarming reflections from grantees around the world, extending their warm wishes to Gloria on her special day.
