The death of a 6 year-old girl in Somalia
August 27, 2014|
A six-year old girl has succumbed to death, a result of hemorrhage and infection after being genitally mutilated. This young girl was subjected to the worst form of the practice, infibulation. By the time we received word of her situation it was too late to save her. What is even more heartbreaking is the fact that those responsible for her death will go unpunished since there are no express laws that criminalize such acts. She is one of many girls who will die because of FGM in Somalia.
GECPD is committed to the elimination of FGM in Somalia. While the organization does great work and has made some progress, their resources are very limited and stories like this are much too common. That is why your support is so critical – so that GECPD can build the capacity to prevent six-year old girls from bleeding to death as a result of FGM.
