Thoughts on the US Election

Dear friends,

I am writing to share some thoughts with you following last week’s unexpected election results here in the United States. We were excited by the prospect of our first woman President, and we were hoping to use the momentum of the predicted election of Hillary Clinton to advance our efforts to strengthen the global women’s movement.

However, this election also highlighted the tolerance for misogyny, racism, homophobia and xenophobia that still exists in the United States. This is not representative of our country. Along with millions of other Americans, I am committed to doing whatever we can here at home to protect the human rights and freedoms we want our country to stand for. And of course, we will continue our work to stand with and support the front line work of women’s rights partners around the world.

We hope you will all join us in this effort.

Sincerely,

Jessica Neuwirth
