Today marks the 10th anniversary of the passing of Efua Dorkenoo, a trailblazer in the global fight to end female genital mutilation (FGM). Her tireless work remains a beacon of hope, and her legacy continues to inspire activists worldwide.
In The Gambia, we celebrate the successful defense of the FGM ban—a testament to Efua's vision. However, in Sierra Leone, Parliament has sadly rolled back on including FGM in the Child Rights Act, a reminder of the ongoing challenges in protecting girls from harm.
By supporting the grantees of the Efua Dorkenoo Fund to End FGM, we can keep Efua’s dream alive as they continue her vital work on the frontlines.
