Afghan Women Left Behind After the Earthquake

Our grantee on the ground in Kunar is delivering lifesaving food, hygiene kits, and supplies to women and children affected by the earthquake (Faces have been censored for the safety of individuals)
When a devastating 6.0 earthquake recently struck eastern Afghanistan, more than 2,200 people were killed and thousands injured. But for women and girls, the disaster has been doubly cruel.
As The New York Times reported, rescue teams are almost entirely male and under Taliban rules, they cannot touch or treat women. Bleeding women and adolescent girls were left unattended, pushed aside while men and children received care. Some injured women lay trapped under rubble for hours, waiting for other women to arrive.

Our Afghan grantee is on the ground right now in Kunar Province, where the need is overwhelming. They report a severe shortage of medicine, food, and basic necessities. Children urgently need food packages. Women need hygiene kits and medical attention. The lack of female doctors, banned by the Taliban from studying or working, has left countless women without lifesaving care.
This is why your support is vital.
Frontline Women’s Fund is raising emergency funds to get food, clean water, and hygiene kits directly into the hands of Afghan women who are leading relief efforts for other women and girls. Every contribution goes to meeting their urgent needs in the face of gender apartheid and humanitarian crisis.
