Suspect freed after gang rape in Somalia

January 29, 2018 | Donor Direct Action

Last week we wrote to you about several women and girls who have been brutally raped and gang-raped in Puntland, Somalia recently. Members of the police, military and marines not only failed to protect these women and girls from sexual violence they were actually the ones carrying it out!

Only a single suspect was arrested but we just found out that even he seems to have been released on the pretext that nobody would pay for his meals in jail.

Women being suppored at The Galkayo Center

The single suspect that was arrested, seems to have been released on the pretext that nobody would pay for his meals in jail.

My organization, The Galkayo Center, has taken on a lot of the work of supporting the survivors in these rape cases, but as a front line women’s group we have very limited resources and can’t afford to keep doing this.

We hope that you will make a donation today and help us convince the police and courts to hold every single rapist accountable for their actions.

Warm regards,
