Fund the fight of our lives

December 22, 2022 | Donor Direct Action

As 2022 winds down we at Donor Direct Action take a moment to pause - inspired and in awe of the work of our indomitable frontline women's rights partners from every region of the world! We feel fortunate that we get to witness the strength of these fierce activists from such close proximity everyday. And we try our best to bring these inspiring stories to your attention so that you can be part of the community of steadfast support that frontline women can count on around the world.

In 2022, MARTA Centre worked to support Ukrainian refugee women (in Latvia and Ukraine) with housing, physical and mental health and it was one of the first groups in the world to raise the alarm about the sex trafficking of Ukrainian women and girls during the war. In Afghanistan, the leader of Humanitarian Assistance for the Women and Children of Afghanistan (HAWCA) did not flee but chose to remain in the country so that she could lead HAWCA in the provision of emergency services to hundreds of marginalized Afghan families and educate Afghan girls under life-threatening conditions. In the midst of a drought and impending famine in Somalia, Galkayo Education Center for Peace and Development (GECPD) re-opened its hostel for 150 girls in Harfo. Through its programs in 4 regions of Somalia, GECPD protected thousands of girls from dropping-out of school or forced into early & forced marriages, FGM and other forms of violence ensuing from the hunger crisis. Through relentless protests, community events and campaigns, Manuela Ramos in Peru ensured that the rights of femicide victims, immigrants and indigenous people are not forgotten amidst the political turmoil that has haunted Peru in 2022.

These are just a few examples that we picked from each region to demonstrate how precious frontline women's rights activism is to build a better world. At Donor Direct Action we are constantly reminded of this by over 30 phenomenal frontline partners from around the world. They may be small, but their work fills a void that few others are willing to tackle. So this year-end I invite you to make a tax-deductible contribution and join the movement of frontline donors. I can assure you that your support of our frontline women's rights activists will save lives.

Thanks so much,
