FWLD Emergency Fund for Victims of Earthquake in Nepal
Our Nepalese partner, the Forum for Women, Law and Development in Kathmandu, has set up a fund for emergency relief following the devastating earthquake in Nepal. 100% of all contributions to Donor Direct Action for this fund will go directly to Kathmandu to help victims address urgent survival needs.
International Outcry Inspires Legal Action
On June 24, 2011, a 21-year-old Buddhist nun traveling to visit family in far eastern Nepal had to spend the night on a bus halted by flooding. The driver and four other men from the bus company gang-raped her until she lost consciousness.
Nepal Supreme Court Issues Verdict in Favor of Trafficking Victims
The Nepal Supreme Court ruled in favor of a public interest litigation filed by FWLD, Maiti Nepal, and Shakti Samuha, and ordered effective implementation of regulations that require cases such as human trafficking, rape, and abduction be heard through continuous hearings to ensure victims receive justice.
