Deeqa, 10, died from FGM – help Galkayo Center save others

July 24, 2018 | Donor Direct Action

A 10-year-old girl, Deeqa Dahir Nuur, bled to death last week after undergoing female genital mutilation (FGM) in Somalia. Because these deaths are usually shrouded in secrecy it is rare to hear about them, but they happen regularly.

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) has affected 98% of Somali women.

FGM has affected 98% of Somali women. My organization, The Galkayo Center, educates girls on the enormous harm it causes and helps to protect those at risk. Unfortunately though, many of those we teach have already undergone the practice. Our hope is that these girls will be part of a generation of future mothers who will break the cycle once and for all.

Please donate what you can afford to help us continue our lifesaving work. I promise that every single cent will be used to maximum effect.

Please read more about Deeqa’s case on The Guardian and USA Today.
Warm regards,

Hawa Aden Mohamed
Executive Director, The Galkayo Education Center for Peace and Development
