Throughout Latin America, machismo culture teaches men, and women, that women are property, less than human, deserve abuse and punishment, and have no inherent rights. Impunity has been and continues to be, in most cases, a given. Movimiento Manuela Ramos, our partner in Peru, has been fighting this deeply entrenched cultural attitude on all fronts since they were founded more than forty years ago, in 1978.
